“Be persistent, be tough”: How Chung-Ang University’s Kang Hyun-soo is taking on the pros

Four years of preparation, now it’s time to show what he can do.

Chung-Ang University’s Kang Hyun-soo scored 20 points, including four three-pointers, and dished out four assists to lead his team to victory against Dankook University in the 2024 KUSF College Basketball U-League at Cheongryong Gymnasium on the Anseong campus of Chung-Ang University on Tuesday. Led by Kang’s performance, 사설 토토사이트 Chung-Ang University led throughout the game and won 72-49 to move into a tie for fifth place with Dongguk University.

“After the disappointing loss against Hanyang University, as the most senior member of the team, I tried to raise the team’s spirits with (Im) Dong-ian to keep the team’s mood from dropping. Even during the Chuseok holiday, we didn’t take a day off and the juniors struggled together, and I think that effort led to the victory,” he said.

After suffering a close loss against Hanyang University on the 12th, Chung-Ang University traveled to Changwon to play a practice game against Changwon LG. When asked how it felt to play against professional seniors, Kang Hyun-soo said, “I think there is definitely a barrier. I often played against seniors Doo Kyung-min and Yang Jun-seok, and they are fast and strong, and their shooting and passing are accurate. I tried hard to keep up with them,” he reflected.

That day coincided with the deadline for the KBL’s domestic player rookie draft. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,” said Kang Hyun-soo, who will be participating in the draft along with his teammate Lim Dong-un. As the draft approaches, I’m both nervous and excited,” he said of his current feelings.

When asked to describe his strengths to professional officials, he said, “I think my best strength is my fastball. But I also need to improve my defense and vision. Also, when I go to the pros, I have to start from the bottom again. I’m going to be persistent and hardworking like a professional player,” he said.

When asked if he had any role models in the KBL, he had a surprising answer. Referring to KT’s Moon Jung-hyun, a forward instead of a guard, Kang said, “He plays a different position, but he’s good at everything: scoring, passing, and rebounding. I want to emulate his versatility and the way he plays with ease,” he added.

Kang is shooting a career-high 43 percent from three-point range this season. That’s a huge improvement considering he shot just 19.0 percent in 2022 as a sophomore and 19.4 percent last season as a junior. On this day, Kang shot six three-pointers, making four of them.

“Shooting is half about confidence,” he said, ”and Coach Duwon gave me a lot of guidance on shooting. He helped me with my stance and advised me to utilize my lower body more. Also, I tried to shoot as long as possible rather than short, which was very helpful. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Coach Duwon.”

Finally, Kang Hyun-soo said, “The draft is important, but the priority is to finish the remaining games of the college league well. I will do my best to win the remaining two games without any injuries.”
