
The LG Twins swept the Doosan Bears in the first game of a three-game weekend series.
LG won the first game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League home series against Doosan 16-7 at Jamsil Stadium on April 19.
With the win, LG surpassed the 50-win plateau (42 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws), second only to the Kia Tigers, who are in first place this season. LG has won four straight games. They are second in the league standings. Doosan, on the other hand, remained in fourth place with 49 wins, 45 losses, and two draws.
LG starter Lim Chan-kyu pitched six innings, allowing five runs (five earned) on seven hits (two home runs) with one walk and five strikeouts to improve to 6-4 on the season. Kim Yoo-young, Baek Seung-hyun, and Jin Woo-young followed with one inning each. In a batting lineup that pounded out 16 hits, Austin went 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored, while Hong Chang-ki went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Oh Ji-hwan also had a big day with three hits.
Doosan, on the other hand, had a tough time getting out of the gate as Shirakawa was roughed up for five runs (five earned) on four hits (one home run), three walks and a hit-by-pitch in three innings. All six pitchers who took the mound on the day gave up runs, including Lee Kyo-hoon in 2 1/3 innings, Hong Gun-hee in 2 1/3 innings, Kim Yoo-sung in 4 1/3 innings, Kim Ho-joon in 2 1/3 innings, and Park Jung-soo in 1 ⅔ innings. At the plate, Kang Seung-ho, Ramos, and Kim Ki-yeon each had multi-hit games.
LG scored first in the top of the first inning to take control of the game. After leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki singled to center, Austin singled to right and Moon Bo-kyung walked to load the bases. Kim Hyun-soo grounded out to second base, but Hong scored from third.
Doosan answered with four runs in the top of the third inning to put the game out of reach. Kim Ki-yeon led off with a solo shot to center field to tie the 메이저사이트 game at 1-1. After Cho Sung-ryeon singled and stole second, Kang Seung-ho followed with a double and Kim Jae-hwan launched a two-run shot over the left field fence.(4-1) LG got one back in the bottom of the inning when Austin hit a solo arch to right field.(4-2)
In the top of the fourth inning, Doosan put runners on first and third with one out when Kim Ki-yeon singled to right and Cho Sung-hyun grounded into a double play, scoring Jeon Min-jae from third.(5-2) But that was as close as Doosan would get. LG’s firepower then exploded.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, after an infield single by leadoff hitter Oh Ji-hwan and back-to-back walks by Park Dong-won and Park Hae-min, Shin Min-jae singled up the middle and Hong Chang-ki hit a two-run double to right field. It tied the game at 5-5. With runners on first and third, Moon Sung-joo singled in front of the shortstop, scoring Shin Min-jae from third to make it a 6-5 game. Austin grounded out to the pitcher.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, there was a crowd disturbance. A male spectator in a suit, umbrella in hand, ran onto the field. However, he was restrained and escorted out of the stadium without causing any major incidents. “We have called the police and will be handing him over,” said an LG team official.
LG added three more runs in the sixth inning with one big hit. After a leadoff walk and a stolen base, Shin Min-jae tagged up on Hong Chang-ki’s fly ball to right field and reached third base. Moon Sung-joo then came in to pinch-hit for Kim Bum-seok, who drew a walk against reliever Hong Gun-hee. Kim was replaced by pinch-hitter Choi Seung-min. Austin followed with a three-run shot over the left field fence to make it 9-5.
LG finally broke the game open with a six-run seventh inning. After leading off with a double, Oh Ji-hwan came home on Park Dong-won’s single to right-center. After Hae-min Park singled to right-center and Shin Min-jae was hit by a pitch to load the bases, reliever Kim Ho-joon threw a wild pitch to Hong Chang-ki, allowing Park to score from third base. Next, pinch-hitter Koo Bon-hyuk’s grounder to shortstop scored Park Hae-min from third base, and then Austin’s timely double down the right field line scored Shin Min-jae from third base to make it 13-5. That wasn’t the end of it. Moon Bo-kyung followed with a two-run triple down the right field line to extend the lead to 10 runs (15-5). LG added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and then defeated Doosan, who rallied for two runs in the ninth inning, to win their fourth straight game.
