Lotte’s “super transfer” Son Ho-young, 30, has dramatically broken the record of 30 consecutive games with a hit. He is now just one game away from the most in a single season in history.
Son started the 20th game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against KT at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea, batting third in the lineup.
Son’s hit didn’t come until the eighth inning. The streak was about to be broken.
In the top of the first inning, Son led off with a single and was tagged out at first base on a throwing error by pitcher William Cuevas, leaving the bases loaded with no outs.
Son Ho-young, who flied out to shortstop with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, struggled to produce a hit in the fifth inning, striking out swinging with runners on second and third. He had another chance in the top of the seventh with one out, but struck out.
Son Ho-young, who struck out three times in the game, did not miss his ‘last chance’ in the top of the ninth inning. Earlier, Ko Seung-min had hit a solo home run to right center to pull Lotte within 5-6, and Son Ho-young followed with a solo shot to left to tie the game at 6-6. Son’s eighth home run of the season. Son hit a 148-kilometer fastball from KT closer Park Young-hyun for a massive 135-meter home run.
Son now faces a record of 30 consecutive games with a hit. He is tied with Doosan’s Kim Jae-hwan, who had a 30-game hitting streak in 2018, for third place in that category.
Son, who joined Lotte from LG via trade earlier this season, had a 30-game hitting streak that began on April 17 when he went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI against LG in Jamsil. After a brief hiatus due to a hamstring injury, Son returned to action on April 2 against Sasik NC and has been on a hitting streak in every game since.
With one more game to go, Son will tie the record for the most consecutive games with a hit in a single season in history. In 1999, Lotte’s Park Jung-tae held the record for the most consecutive games in a single season when he hit in 31 consecutive 스포츠토토 games from May 5, 1999, against Daejeon Hanwha to June 9, 1999, against Masan Doosan. The previous record was Park Jong-ho’s 39 games over two seasons in 2003 and 2004.
Lotte’s joy was short-lived, however. They tied the game 6-6 with a dramatic solo shot by Son Ho-young, but had to settle for a 6-7 loss after Kim Won-joong blew the game open with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. It was a messy day for Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung, who was ejected for protesting a video review.
The level of my fascination with your work matches your own enthusiasm. Your sketch is elegant, and the authored material is impressive. Nevertheless, you appear concerned about the prospect of heading in a direction that could be seen as dubious. I agree that you’ll be able to address this concern promptly.
