‘MLB’s most prolific hitter’ Rose dies…faces permanent ban for gambling problems

Former Cincinnati Reds manager Pete Rose, who holds the Major League Baseball (MLB) record for career hits by an individual and was banned from the league for “betting” on his team’s games, has died.

ESPN reported on Jan. 1 (KST), “The coroner in Clark County, Nevada, confirmed Rose’s death. He was 83 years old,” and ‘there is no sign of foul play,’ ESPN reported.

Rose was known as the “King of Controversial Hits.

During his 24-season MLB career from 1963 to 1986, Rose hit 4,256 home runs in 3,652 games. He is the MLB’s all-time leader in both games played and hits.

He had 65 more hits than Ty Cobb, who had 4,191 hits.

According to ESPN, “Rose finished first in batting average three times and led the league in hits seven times. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1963 and National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1973.” ”He was an All-Star 17 times. In 1975, he was named World Series MVP,” he said of Rose’s career accomplishments.

“Based on his stats alone, Rose is a deserving inductee into the MLB Hall of Fame.”

Rose’s career MLB stats include a .303 batting average, 160 home runs, 1,314 RBIs, 198 doubles, and a .784 OPS.

However, Rose was never inducted into the Hall of Fame. Instead, he hovered around the baseball world with the stigma of being permanently banned from MLB.

As ESPN says, “Even during his playing days, Rose was a controversial figure. His winning personality endeared him to his team’s fans but also drew criticism,” recalls ESPN, ”including a controversial play in the 1970 All-Star Game in which he tripped an opposing catcher at home and scored.”

Even more problematic were his gambles as a manager.

Rose was permanently banned from MLB in 1989, when he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds, for betting on games against his team.

Rose, who denied ever having “bet on a baseball game,” eventually accepted a “life ban” from the MLB office. He was later convicted of tax evasion and served time in prison.

Rose applied for reinstatement several times, but was denied.

Whenever his gambling problem came up in the MLB, he would comment and claim that “I was punished too much”.

However, Rose never received a lottery ticket. 메이저사이트
