Does it make sense to score 2 goals with penalties out of 113 goals in the EPL of King Kenzans?….SON, if you kicked PK instead of Kane

Son Heung-min led his team to a 4-1 victory in the 16th round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) home game against Newcastle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the 11th, with two assists and one goal as a penalty kicker Kane was dedicated to before leaving Tottenham last summer.

In the 26th minute of the first half, Son led Destiny Udogi’s first goal with a cross from the left to the goalpost, in the 38th minute of the first half, and striker Hishalisson added another goal. In the 40th minute of the second half when his team was leading 3-0 due to Hishalisson’s extra goal, he got a penalty kick directly from the opposing goalkeeper in the box. Son, who scored as a penalty in the match against China in the qualifying round for the national soccer team’s World Cup last month, scored again with a sharp right-footed shot that penetrated the bottom left corner of the goal. With his 10th goal on the day, Son set a double-digit goal record in the EPL for the eighth consecutive season. He tied with “Asian legend” Ian Wright (23rd) in total with 113 goals in the EPL.

It is the first time in more than two years and seven months that Son Heung-min wore a Tottenham uniform and kicked a penalty. The last “PK goal” was to shoot a come-from-behind final goal, which made it 2-1 with a penalty in the 45th minute of the second half of the match against Southampton in April 2021.

There is a reason. Even before Son Heung-min joined in 2015, there was a clear PK kicker in the team. It is Kane. Sometimes Dele Alli, Vincent Janssen, and Son Heung-min kicked, but Tottenham’s penalty manager was Kane without any injuries. In all of Son Heung-min’s recent penalties, Kane was missing due to injury. 슬롯머신

Kane scored 33 goals, or about 15.5 percent of the 213 goals he scored in the EPL. This means that about one out of six to seven goals was PK. He has taken care of all eight penalties his team won in the 2022-2023 season. He has succeeded six times.

Son, on the other hand, has two PK goals out of 113 goals. It accounts for only about 1.76 percent of the total. Son has fewer penalties with his feet than the header score (four goals), which was considered the only weakness of his team.

Son has kicked just five penalties (60%) in the matches against Rochdale in February 2018, Southampton (FA Cup) and Aston Villa in February 2020, Southampton (League) in April 2021 and Newcastle in December 2023. Wouldn’t it be easier to accumulate statistics than now if he had a chance to consistently kick penalties for eight years?

Son scored 23 goals in the EPL during the 2021-2022 season, becoming the first Asian to win the title of joint top scorer. The fact that none of the 23 goals he scored back then also received a lot of attention in the U.K. The fact that he did not have a single goal at the time was highlighted. If he scores penalty points, his dream is to become the second top scorer. Son is currently ranking third with 10 goals. There is a four-goal gap with first-runner Erling Holan (14 goals) who suffered a fatigue fracture and is expected to be sidelined for the time being. He also missed the match against Luton Town on Saturday. The second-highest scorer is Mohamed Salah, the “Liverpool ace” who has 11 goals.

Son Heung-min, who had a perfect performance to break Tottenham’s winless record in five consecutive games, aims to score a goal in two consecutive games against Nottingham Forest on the 16th. In March, he scored a decisive goal in his most recent showdown with Nottingham, leading to a 3-1 victory.
