‘Humiliation’ of losing captaincy, but still ‘benched’… “I want to start,” says strong appeal

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, 30, could leave the club due to playing time.

British media outlet ‘The Daily Mail’ reported on January 12 (KST), “Maguire will be forced to leave United in the January transfer window if manager Eric ten Hagh does not play him. He started in the Premier League after six defenders were knocked out with injuries. When the likes of Raphael Varane, 30, return, Maguire will be a candidate.”

The Three Lions face Australia in a friendly on April 14 and Italy in a Euro 2024 qualifier on April 18. In a pre-match interview, Maguire said: “I’m not looking to play every month. If that continues, I will talk to the club,” he said, hinting at a possible move.

“I don’t know if I’ll play my next game for United. It’s not my decision. We’ll find out in two weeks,” he said, adding, “I believe in my ability. I want to play, I want the club to value me. I haven’t played much lately,” he insisted.

The confidence is still there. “My record shows it. I have a pretty good winning percentage when I play. I looked back at the games I’ve started for club and national team. I’m happy with my performances. I want to regain my place at United and help the team move up the table.”

Maguire looked set to leave United in the summer transfer window. The BBC and The Guardian both reported that Maguire had been linked with a move to West Ham United. “Maguire is determined to stay at the club and is hopeful he will be given a chance to play,” said the BBC.

West Ham were planning to use Maguire as a key defender. His leadership is also highly valued. According to The Guardian, David Moyes was considering Maguire as his next captain. Maguire wore the captain’s armband just three months after joining the club, but he fell out of favor under Van Gaal and lost the captaincy to Bruno Fernandez, 28.

Maguire, who remained at United, has struggled for game time. He has played just 116 minutes in three Premier League games this season. He made his 메이저토토사이트 first start against Brentford. This was after the likes of Lissandro Martinez (25) and Luke Shaw (28) went down with injuries.

Meanwhile, the national team continues to be called up. Gareth Southgate considers Maguire a key part of England’s defense. He wants him to improve his game through consistent starts. Maguire has also made it clear that he wants to compete for a starting spot.
