Italy’s Atalanta wins the Europa League… Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak ends at 51 games

Italy’s Atalanta broke Germany’s Leverkusen’s dream of being ‘undefeated’ and winning a ‘treble’ (triple crown) in one blow and rose to the top of the UEFA Europa League.
Atalanta won the 2023-2024 UEFA Europa League final, defeating Leverkusen 3-0 thanks to Ademola Lookman’s hat-trick, held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on May 23, 2024.

Atalanta lifted the trophy for the first time in 61 years across all competitions (excluding the second division).
Atalanta had not had a chance to win since reaching the top of the Coppa Italia (Italian Cup) in the 1962-1963 season.

There is no experience of winning Serie A yet.
It was their first time advancing to the finals of the Europa League and they reached the top spot.

It is also Atalanta’s first time winning a European competition.

Leverkusen, Germany

Atalanta’s Lukeman became the sixth player in history to score a hat-trick in a European final.
Lukman opened the attack with a left-footed shot in front of the goal in the attack following Atalanta’s corner kick in the 12th minute of the first half.

In the 26th minute of the first half, he scored an additional goal with a right-footed mid-range shot aimed at the right corner of the goal near the penalty arc.
In the 30th minute of the second half when Atalanta launched a counterattack, he scored a hat trick with a left-footed shot from the left penalty area.
