Kaysedo made the move to Chelsea with a phone call.
“Moises Kaysedo has revealed that he decided to reject Liverpool’s move to Chelsea with a last-minute phone call,” Sports Bible reported on Nov. 11 (KST).
Chelsea wanted Moises Caicedo, who has been a standout since last season. A versatile player who can play as a central midfielder or defensive midfielder, he was a key player for Brighton, scoring one goal and providing one assist in 37 appearances in the English Premier League last season.
His performances earned him a move to Arsenal and Chelsea in the winter transfer window in January, but the high price tag kept him at the club and he signed a new contract on March 4 (KST) until 2027.
The transfer speculation reignited this summer. Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Chelsea were all interested, but after Caicedo rejected Munich and turned his attention to Leicester, it was Chelsea who remained.
Chelsea have been busy this summer dealing with their name-bar ‘malignant inventory’. Having already sold Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N’Golo Kante, and Mason Mount in midfield, and with Conor Gallagher also linked to other clubs, they needed to find a partner for Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea seemed to be in the mood to make a move with a £100 million bid, but Liverpool suddenly entered the fray. On August 10, it was reported that the Reds had made an approach for Caicedo, and on August 11, it was reported that the Reds had agreed to a £110 million ($185.3 billion) deal.
Eventually, however, Chelsea submitted a new offer worth up to £115 million and the tedious transfer saga officially came to an end. To date, Caicedo has been a regular starter for the Blues and is considered the centerpiece of their midfield.
He revealed how a phone call from Enzo Fernandez, who joined Chelsea in January, helped convince him to make the move. “It was a good conversation, I was very happy to get that call and he convinced me to come here,” he told Sky Sports’ Big Interview.
“He said it’s a great club, they have a lot of young players, and there’s an atmosphere of togetherness,” Caicedo continued. I always like team bonding, because I think if you have a bond, you can handle any situation, including pressure. That’s what motivated me to come here,” he added.
Sitting side-by-side with Caicedo in the interview, Enzo expressed his delight at having persuaded his counterpart to leave Liverpool.
Enzo added: “I called him and told him that he should accept and come because Chelsea is a great and ambitious club. We all know what a great 먹튀검증 player Pochettino is, but he is also a fantastic person, so I thank God for giving me the opportunity to play with him at Chelsea. I am grateful that Pochettino chose Chelsea,” he said.
