Korea Expressway Corporation’s women’s professional volleyball team defeated Pepper Savings Bank behind a strong performance from rookie Kim Se-bin, setting the stage for a mid-table finish. Pepper Savings Bank fell into a 19-game losing streak.
The road construction company won the Dodram 2023~2024 V-League Women’s League match against Pepper Savings Bank with a set score of 3-1 (26-24 25-19 25-17) at 토토 Pepper Stadium in Gwangju on March 3.
After losing their previous match against Heungkuk Life, the Roadrunners rebounded with the win. With a 9-17 record and 28 points, the sixth-ranked DOT reduced the gap between them and fifth-ranked IBK (33 points).
Pepper Savings Bank has lost 19 straight games. They are one game shy of tying the V-League Women’s record of 20 consecutive losses, which was set between the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. With a 2-24 record and seven points, they remain in the bottom seven of the league.
Roadworks Vukiric had 18 points, including four back-attacks, and Bae Yuna had 17 points, including four service aces and two blocks. Tanacha added 13 points. Rookie of the Year candidate Kim Se-bin had a match-high 11 points, including four blocks.
For Pepper Savings Bank, Park Jung-ah had 15 points, Lee Han-bi had 13, Phillips had 12, and Yasmin had 10, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the team from losing.
The first set was a deuce battle. At 24-24, Yasmin’s open attack was blocked by Bae Yuna, giving DOT a set point. Yasmin’s subsequent open attack went out, giving DOT the first set.
In the second set, DOT took the initiative. While Pepper Savings Bank‘s Yasmin, Park Jung-ah, and Lee Han-bi all had attack success rates in the high 30s, Doro took the set with ease as all players, including Vukiric, scored evenly.
Facing defeat, Pepper Savings Bank fought back in the third set. Phillips scored five points with a 100% success rate on fastballs, while Lee Han-bi scored four points. Roadworks’ attack success rate dropped below 30%. Pepper Savings Bank won the set with ease.
In the middle of the fourth set, back-to-back points by Bae Yoo-na gave DOT the lead. Rookie middle blocker Kim Se-bin recorded the most points in a single match. Pepper Savings Bank failed to catch up due to the shoulder pain of their main player, Yasmin, and Roadworks won the set.
