Lee Jun-ho wins triple gold in men’s all-around at 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Men’s artistic gymnastics all-arounder Lee Jun-ho (Jeonbuk-do) ended 2023 on a high note with a triple gold medal.

Lee swept the men’s all-around (80.900 points), parallel bars (13.800 points) and uneven bars (14.100 points) events at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics National Championships, held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at Yanggu Culture and Sports Center in Gangwon Province, which also served as a selection event for the 2024 national team.

Lee specializes in all six events in men’s artistic gymnastics: floor, uneven bars, rings, vault, parallel bars, and beam.

After qualifying for eight consecutive Olympic Games from Barcelona 1992 to Tokyo 2020, South Korea’s men’s artistic gymnastics team finished 14th at this year’s World Championships and will not compete in the team event at Paris 2024.

Instead, Lee Jun-ho will compete in the men’s all-around competition in Paris as an individual according to the quota allocated to each country by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

On the women’s side, newcomer Shin Sol-i (Gangwon Provincial Gymnastics Association) won the all-around with a score of 52.675 on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise, pushing Lee Yoon-seo (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office – 51.250) into second place.

Led by Shin Sol-i, Lee Yoon-seo, Uhm Do-hyun (Jeju Samdasu) and Yeo Seo-jung (Jecheon City Hall), the Korean women’s gymnastics team finished 11th at the World Championships, dramatically punching their ticket to next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

It is the first time in 36 years since the 1988 Seoul Games that Korean women’s gymnastics will compete in the Olympic team event, a 12-nation competition.

The Korean Gymnastics Federation held a performance enhancement committee after the championships to select 12 men and women as next year’s national team and candidates.

Moon Gun-young (Gwangju Gymnasium), who won the first-ever seven men’s high school titles at this year’s National Games and finished third in the all-around (79.401 points) and first in the floor exercise (14.367 points), was also honored with the Taeguk mark. 파워볼사이트
