Macau’s GGR in May breached US$1.9 bln, up 6% from April

Macau reported casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $15.57 billion ($1.93 billion) in May, up 5.7% from $14.72 billion in April. The GGR rose sequentially for the third consecutive month.

The latest monthly tally is up 365.9% from May 2022, according to data released on Thursday by the local regulator, Game Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

The May results were the highest monthly performance since the GGR hit 22.13 billion MOPs in January 2020, before the pandemic alert began. The first three days of May were part of a five-day break in mainland China, starting on April 29 and including Labor Day on May 1.

Macau’s casino GGR rose 172.9% from a year ago to 64.93 billion MOPs in the five months to May 31.

For all of 2022, Macau’s casino GGR was MOP42 billion, down 51.4% year-over-year.

Despite being considered a “strong print” in terms of monthly GGRs, Macau casino shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange have seen some volatility in valuation in recent weeks.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Angela Hanley suggested that the Macau name was “probably punished too much because of Chinese sentiment.” 경마사이트프로
