Ohio Bans Player Offer Betting On NCAA Match

The OCCC’s decision came after NCAA President Charlie Baker wrote a letter to the committee’s executive director, Matt Schuler, asking for a ban on player-specific proper bets for the games. The letter was also endorsed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

Betters will no longer be able to bet in markets such as quarterback pass yards or basketball player points in NCAA games. Operators have until March 1 to introduce restrictions.

In the OCCC’s announcement, the committee said it would be the 25th state to ban or restrict player-specific betting on NCAA tournaments. The goal of the ban is to protect NCAA players from potential harassment from bettors, as well as to curb match manipulation.

Ohio only began legal sports betting in January 2023. In July, the state passed a law aimed at preventing people who threatened athletes from making sports bets, a precursor to a new ban on prop betting. 스포츠토토

Responding to the ban, Governor DeWine said, “The Ohio Casino Control Board has taken swift action to protect student athletes from unnecessary and potentially harmful threats.

“Revising the rules to focus bets on teams and away from individual players will improve Ohio’s market and allow us to properly focus our betting attention on teams away from individual student players.”
