Phil Helmut fell just short of winning his 12th World Series poker gold bracelet

Helmus, who owns the World Series of Poker Best 11 individual gold bracelets, finished second to tournament veteran John Zuanda in the $10,000 buy-in no-limit deuce to seven-draw lowball world championship in Rio. Juanda, who won his fifth career gold bracelet, raised $367,170 after beating the 126-player field.

A native of Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, Juanda moved to the U.S. in 1990 to attend Oklahoma State University and received his degree. He later earned an MBA from Seattle University and was a salesman before pursuing full-time poker.

During her first five years in World Series poker, Joanda reached 16 final tables and won three gold bracelets. Before Sunday morning, Joanda’s last victory in Las Vegas came at the 2003 Port Limited Omaha event.

Joanda’s victory brings him with seven other players who won five gold bracelets; the late Stu Ungar, Berry Johnston, 2000 World Series Poker Champion Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Ted Forrest, Jeffrey Lisandro, Alan Cunningham, “Bones” Berland, and 1998 Main Event Winner Scottie Nguyen. 에볼루션 바카라사이트

For Helmus, who won the World Series of Poker main event in 1989 at the age of 24, second place earned the 80th career award of his World Series of Poker. His $226,907 in second place boosted Helmus’ career World Series of Poker earnings to more than $6.4 million.

Hellmuth had hoped for a 12th bracelet (11th bracelet in 2007), which was to keep a little more distance between Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson, who each have 10 gold bracelets.

Helmus congratulated Juanda by waving his last hand and saying, “Well played, my friend. Well played.” However, the disappointment was obvious. Around 4 a.m. this morning, Helmus tweeted, “Couldn’t sleep, took off my pajamas, walked right downstairs to the ‘High Roller’ at the Aria Hotel and drank my 4th cup of 25 year old McCallan Scotch…”
