RONALDO BREAKS RECORD FOR MOST A-MATCH GOAL ASPORTUGAL CONTINUES UNBEATEN RUN IN EURO QUALIFIERS

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal-Alnasr) broke his own record for most goals in an A-match with a brace against underdog Liechtenstein .Ronaldo scored the winner in the ninth minute of Portugal’s Euro 2024 qualifying Group J match against Liechtenstein at the Rheinpark Stadium in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on Sunday (July 17).After a quick run down the left side, Ronaldo received a pass from Diogo Jota and fired a left-footed shot into the right side of the net that rattled the net .It was Ronaldo’s 128th A-match goal in 203 games, surpassing the previous record holder, Iran’s Ali Daei (retired – 108), in September 2021.

Portugal won 2-0 with a goal from Antonio Silva 12 minutes into the second half. Portugal, which had already qualified for Euro 2024, extended its unbeaten run to nine matches in qualifying (27 points) and solidified its position at the top of Group J. In Group A, Spain won 3-1 away to Cyprus thanks to an early goal from 16-year-old newcomer Ramin Yamal.

Yamal, a member of Spain’s prestigious FC Barcelona, scored on his A-match debut against Georgia in September at the age of 16 years and 57 days in a 7-1 win for Spain, making him the youngest player ever to score for the Spanish national team.

Spain, who also qualified for the knockout rounds, have won five straight qualifying matches. With just one game remaining, Spain currently leads the group with 18 points, two points ahead of Scotland (16).In Group F, Sweden, already guaranteed elimination, fell to a 0-3 defeat away to Azerbaijan.
