Samsung Fire’s Yoo Jong-mi vows to make it happen

“We just have to stop them from blowing up our home.”

Samsung Fire head coach Kim Sang-woo has vowed to rebound and finish strong in his final home match.

Samsung Fire fell to KEPCO 1-3 (24-26, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25) in the sixth round of the Dodram V League 2023-24 Men’s Division on Wednesday at Suwon Indoor Gymnasium.

With the loss, Samsung Fire (48 points) dropped to sixth place in the standings after losing the fifth spot to KEPCO (50 points). While the team’s elimination from spring volleyball is confirmed, the drop in the rankings is disappointing.

On the day, Yosubani had 18 points and Kim Jung-ho and Eddie had 12 points each, but they lacked depth. After leading the first set to deuce and winning the third set, they tried to turn the tide, but fell short. While KEPCO had 20 effective blocks and nine block points, Samsung Fire had only 10 effective blocks and four block points. The team also had a 45.22 percent attack success rate, a nearly 10 percent difference from KEPCO’s 54.63 percent.

“We didn’t start well,” said coach Kim Sang-woo after the match. In the first set, Yosubani played poorly (1 point, 20% attack success rate), and we missed a lot of sets as we kept making errors. It was a disappointing match because we didn’t have an ace who is the center of the team,” said Kim.

Coach Kim Sang-woo used all three setters on this day, with Lee Jae-hyun being the last. “Lee Jae-hyun was the best in the back-and-forth toss, and when she went out, Yosubani came alive, so I left her in charge until the end,” Kim explained.

Samsung Fire will play their final game of the season against Woori 토토사이트 Card at their home stadium in Daejeon on Nov. 16. Woori Card (69 points), which is still in the title race until the last game, needs a win to overtake Korean Air (68 points) for the title.

However, watching another team celebrate in their home stadium would be a blow to their pride. Samsung Fire and coach Kim Sang-woo are no different. “I don’t want to see Woori Card celebrate in our stadium,” Kim said, adding, “Our team started well and played well, but we don’t want to end up lethargic at the end. We only have two days to prepare, but we want to get our hearts in the right place and win the Yujong with a victory.”
