SLIDING CENTER BECOME’S IBSF ASIA BASE , HOSTS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

The MOU provides for the establishment of an IBSF Asia branch and academy in the PyeongChang Olympic Theme Park and the rotation of sustainable international competitions between PyeongChang and Yanqing, China .The parties anticipate that the IBSF Asia Branch and Academy will host international umpire and leader development workshops at the Alpensia Sliding Center, attracting more than 150 participants from 20 countries each year.

In addition, the IBSF will organize the World Cup and Asian Cup competitions in Pyeongchang and Yanqing. The World Cup, held once a year, will be organized with more than 100 participants from 10 countries, and the Asian Cup, newly established by the IBSF, will be held eight times a year for the next five years, four times in Pyeongchang and four times in Yanqing.

For Gangwon Province, the agreement means that it will be able to boost the local economy and internalize the operation of the Olympic Sliding Center. Gangwon Province and Pyeongchang County estimate that the IBSF’s workshops and two international competitions will bring around 450 people to Pyeongchang annually, generating more than KRW 1 billion in economic revitalization.
