Song Chun-cho’s team fearlessly challenged 3×3 players, who are said to have three teams in the upcoming competition. The emergence of elite elementary school players on the court, which had been dominated by club players, was enough to give fresh air to the court.
Song Chun-cho’s team, which had no contact with 3×3, recently became interested in 3×3 after conducting a 3×3 talent donation clinic with Jeon Byung-joon of the 3×3 women’s team and participated in the competition.
Ok Do-jun, a sixth-year captain of Songcheon Elementary School, said, “Coach Jeon Byung-joon came to school a while ago and conducted a 3×3 talent donation clinic. Originally, I didn’t know much about 3×3 sports, but since I got the clinic from the coach, I became interested in 3×3. Sejong is close to Jeonju, so I decided to participate in this competition with the members of the basketball team,” expressing his determination to take on a new challenge.
A total of 11 players participated in the Sejong competition by dividing them into three teams, and participated under unique team names such as Red Shark, Black Shark, and JJU11. Among them, Red Shark and Black Shark advanced to the semifinals. However, JJU11, which consists of fifth graders, was eliminated from the preliminary match as they felt the difference in skills with sixth graders.
Lim Seung-ha, a fifth grader, said, “It is definitely different from a five-on-five basketball game. When you look at the opposing teams, they are learning 3×3 patterns and they are powerful. They are fast to change the number of offense and defense and are full of thrills. I think it is a sport that has some pleasure.”
Although there is still a long way to go, Song Chun-cho, who is gradually developing his dream as a player with passion for basketball, said, “There are many teams that are good at basketball, but I want to win the title.” “I have a meaningful experience. This will also be a memory. If I have a chance, I want to keep challenging myself on the 3×3 stage.”
