Women’s U-20 soccer team reaches Asian Cup semifinals…advances to World Cup

The South Korea U-20 women’s national soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the U-20 Asian Cup and booked their place at the World Cup.

South Korea, led by Park Yoon-jung, defeated hosts Uzbekistan 13-0 in a goal-fest in the third match of Group A at the AFC Women’s U-20 Asian Cup at the Zar Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to advance to the semifinals.

Park Yoon Jung-ho will face the Group B leader at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for a spot in the final.

South Korea scored six goals in the first half to take an early lead.

In the eighth minute, Hong Chae-bin opened the scoring with a right-footed shot from the penalty area in front of the goal, and two minutes later, Yang Eun-seo rattled the net with a left-footed shot.

In the 20th minute, Kim Ji-hyun took advantage of a mistake by the opposing defense to score with a left-footed shot, and two minutes later, Hong Chae-bin completed her multi-goal performance with a left-footed shot.
